You may remember one of the winning projects from our February Project of the Month contest: Corey Froschheuser’s mid-century-inspired furniture bamboo table he calls Boomerang, made from Cali Bamboo plywood. We are happy to announce that Corey was generous enough to donate the stunningly beautiful table as one of the art pieces for Surfrider San Diego’s 15th annual Art Gala this past weekend! The event is Surfrider’s main fundraising event of the year, gathering an eco-minded community from Southern California and beyond to support the organization’s mission of protecting our oceans, waves, and beaches. Thank you very much to Corey for supporting Surfrider’s by donating this amazing table!

About Corey Froschheuser

Corey Froschheuser has a fine arts degree and has been a professional woodworker for over 12 years. He founded the independent woodworking studio Arboriform in San Diego where he designs and builds furniture and functional art from wood, steel, and reclaimed materials. Corey loves to mix mid-century influence with modern design twists, which is how the concept for Boomerang was born. He prefers to work with as much reclaimed material as possible, often pulling scraps from neighboring woodworkers trash, collecting discarded furniture on the side of the road, or any other resources he can find.

Corey initially chose bamboo for its sustainability- bamboo is a rapidly renewable material that can be harvested in as little as 3 years, without causing damage to the plant system and surrounding environment- but was very impressed with the density and durability of the product when he built the table. The layers of bamboo in the plywood create a beautifully unique pattern, so instead of hiding it like in traditional furniture, Corey chose to show it off with a reverse chamfer on Boomerang’s table top. The table’s legs show the end grain pattern as well.

“There is nothing more fulfilling than taking a couple of sketches and ideas to a finished project for you and everyone else to enjoy. D.I.Y. For life!” – Corey
