The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson who believed that education is the key to changing people’s attitudes about the environment. Through his relentless commitment to the environment, he raised public awareness and created one of the largest grassroots movements still alive today.
Nelson explains, “Earth Day worked because of the spontaneous response at the grassroots level. We had neither the time nor resources to organize 20 million demonstrators and the thousands of schools and local communities that participated. That was the remarkable thing about Earth Day. It organized itself.” Earth Day is now celebrated by 500 million people in 175 countries. Please read on to learn how you can celebrate Earth Day this April 20-22nd and year-round.

Make Every Day Earth Day: Choose Sustainable Products
By recycling and opting for more sustainable materials such as bamboo, you can make everyday Earth Day.
FACT: Bamboo grows faster than any other plant on earth, and after being cut can regenerate to its full mass in only six months! It can also be continually re-harvested every three years without causing damage to the plant system and surrounding environment.
