Green Shoots Blog

SAN DIEGO, CA, May 12, 2017 — Rounding out its popular decking line, green building leader, Cali Bamboo is debuting all-new interlocking deck tiles, made of the same material as BamDeck® bamboo composite. The uber DIY-friendly outdoor deck tiles simply drop and lock into place, giving patios, balconies, and existing decks instant outdoor makeovers. Outdoor deck tiles can be installed without the need for tools or professional help, making for fun, fast, budget-friendly, one-person projects.
Built to outperform the competition, the Cali Bamboo deck tiles have the same proven durability as BamDeck® composite. Top planks are made of 60% reclaimed bamboo fiber and 40% recycled HDPE plastic, making for an easy-to-clean, splinter-free surface that is uniquely protected against moisture, insects, rot, and chemicals. The BamDeck® material has also been shown to absorb 90% less water than other composites. The extra heavy-duty base is made of 100% recycled Polypropylene, and features a much stronger and more reliable locking design than other outdoor deck tiles.
The new Cali Bamboo deck tiles come in the same four colors as the BamDeck® series — Slate, Coffee, Caramel, and Charcoal — and feature the same popular matte finish. A versatile construction allows for endless pattern creativity, and the ability to unlock and rearrange tiles means designs can be tested out and fine-tuned. Easy disassembly also makes deck tiles perfect for renters, who may want to take their patio flooring with them to a new home. A ridged surface makes them ideal for non-skid walkways around pools, and the lack of any screws or metal parts allows for easy customized cuts if necessary.
The most effective and DIY way to transform outdoor spaces of every size, the new interlocking composite deck tiles make sophisticated decking more accessible and easier than ever. Learn more at https://www.calibamboo.com/deck-tiles.html

Would you recommend your composite decking products to be used in leu of wood planks in a fence?
Hi Manny,
I’ve seen it done, but it surely makes for one heavy fence, you’d need a steel structure too. Here’s a gallery to take a look at: https://bit.ly/2Cj4j6Q
Are these ever coming back? They look like a good solid product.
Sorry Sam, not that I know of. I know Ikea has them and I’ve even seen them at Costco during the summer months.
I have 5 boxes of them for sale. They are great!
What color do you have?
Hi Pat,
So sorry, we’ve discontinued deck tiles. I have seen a similar product at Ikea and even Costco during summer months.

I am two boxes short of completing my project. How much do you want for them and what color do you have? I’d be interested.
Hi Kendra,
Are you looking for deck tiles? Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer deck tiles.
I see all the colors are discontinued. Did you replace these with another product?
Not yet, but when we do I’ll let you know.
Can these be installed over existing wood decks in Colorado climate?
Sure, as long as the deck below is structurally sound and fairly flat.
can these deck tiles be hung to pressure treated wood attached to an exterior foundation wall? If so, what type of fasteners would you recommend (nails, screws, etc)?
I don’t see why not, but they are a bit heavy so I would err on the side of caution and use a bolt and washer at each corner like this:

I’m interested in your vinyl flooring, first, how do you cut the material and what is in the center of the top veneer and the base? do you have any videos on installing the vinyl flooring/
Hi Gary,
The material can be cut with any power/hand saw or it can also be scored and snapped with a utility blade. We have two styles of vinyl flooring. Our Plus line core is a BPC (bamboo/plastic composite) material and is geared toward comfort with an integrated cork underlayment. Our Pro line is geared toward commercial projects and features a SPC core (stone/plastic composite) material. My apologies we are still working on an installation video for the vinyl flooring but here’s a link to the photos from our video shoot. Here’s a video showing the finished install, and here are detailed vinyl flooring instructions for download.
Hope this helps Gary.
Does any of your tile or outdoor plank decks no material look like bamboo? Like interior bamboo flooring which looks like wood grain in that the strands are oriented in a linear way. Trex looks like compressed sawdust . Do your outdoor products also look like compressed sawdust. If so -no matter how cheap – I dislike the aesthetics of this mongrel product.
Hi Suzanne,
Years back we offered a decking made from bamboo, but it didn’t hold up well to freezing, etc. Unless you are willing to put a lot of money or work into maintaining a wood deck, composite is the way to go. I agree with you, some of it is very unattractive. Composites are a mixture of sawdust and plastics, and planks with more sawdust look like what you’re describing and are more susceptible to scratches and marring, however planks with more plastic can look very plasticky and fake, but are better at resisting scratches and water marks. Our BamDeck line is very modern looking with a simple linear pattern on one side and flat on the other. If you want more of the “wood look” check out our TruOrganics or Pro360 lines. Best advice I can give you is to get as many samples from as many different brands as possible. Once you have narrowed it down to a handful of options, try doing some scratch tests or put them outside for a week or two and see how they hold up to the sun, and sprinklers, etc. Best of luck Suzanne.
I agree. This is a fairly inexpensive look for clients who need to simplify their outdoor entertainment flooring needs. Throughout our condo complex, owners are installing tile for their verandas and porches because they don’t want something cheesy.
I just moved in to this place and the concrete patio is somewhat uneven with cracks. Would the tiles layover the concrete. Trying no to have to remove the concrete.
I’d have to see photos to give a definitive answer, but some cracks are fine. Keep in mind the tiles will follow the curve of the concrete so if you do have any low spots, it’s best to level it with some additional concrete.
Will these stand up for a deck in mn in winter with the snow and rain in the summer etc; How these attach or are they glued down or just together and what is the price per sq. ft. also color and length of each plank;
Hi Betty,
The deck tiles are made from the same BamDeck® material as our popular composite decking so Minnesota winters are no problem. They are sold in boxes of 12 tiles which works out to $5.83/sqft. Visit our Deck Tile category page to see all the colors available. Also, we just finished our deck tile installation video, check it out!
Can this product be installed on the ground either bare or compacted sand ?
Hi David,
No, we only recommend installing over hard surfaces.

Hi Lucille,
Unfortunately, we don’t have samples of the deck tiles. You can purchase one box, and if it’s not to your liking return it.
