There is nothing like camping at one of the California State Parks and campgrounds.
Those located in the northern section of San Deigo County are some of the most amazing places to visit simply because of their location overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Imagine going to sleep under the stars with the lull of the waves crashing into the surf to put you to sleep. The following morning you wake to the same sound and the soft aroma of the ocean air mixed with freshly brewed coffee. If you see yourself there, you are at one of the state beaches including San Elijo or South Carlsbad State Beach.
In the northern section of San Diego County, the state-run beaches and campgrounds are beginning to feel the negative effects of the environment and use. While an increase in state tourism is wonderful for our economy, budget cuts make it hard to maintain the areas’ integrity and physical attributes making it imperative for groups to take the steps necessary to protect the beaches and campgrounds we all love.
The Friends of Cardiff and Carlsbad State Beaches (FCCSB) is a community organization doing what it can to help preserve and protect the California State Parks and campgrounds. By raising money through events, memberships, and very gracious donors, the FCCSB makes it possible to maintain and even upgrade the fixtures at the area beaches and campgrounds.
One of the most recent projects where the FCCSB partnered with the California State Parks was installing new privacy fencing at San Elijo and South Carlsbad State Beaches and campgrounds. When deciding what type of fencing works best in this environment, bamboo was the clear winner. Not only is it very easy to install (simply roll it across anchoring it at certain points), it has an aesthetic appeal that complements the natural setting, is environmentally safe, and is very durable. In fact, it is probably the strongest and most durable material on the market (natural or manmade) to withstand the harsh elements of the beach – wind, sand, sun, and rain. As an Angel Level Sponsor of the FCCSB, Cali Bamboo stepped in with top-quality bamboo fencing for the projects at each state beach and campground.
The FCCSB, through its fundraising efforts, is now working on another project called Adopt-a-Stairway. This crucial project is underway to raise the necessary funds to repair the nine bluff-side stairways at San Elijo and South Carlsbad State Beaches as they are vital beach access points for those who visit our beaches — local residents, campers, and visitors alike. Built in the 1960s, they have not been fully renovated since then and are in dire need of major repairs due to their daily usage as well as the prolonged effects of the elements.
Beautiful Bamboo Fencing help you relax at the State Parks. One option is repairing with our bamboo composite decking because of its strength, durability and positive environmental impact not to mention its balance with the recently installed bamboo privacy fencing. With the project beginning to unfold and become a reality, donations are vital to this project’s complete success of repairing or rebuilding all nine stairways.
We love where we live and know how important it is to protect what we are so lucky to have at our backdoor. It is not uncommon to hear one of us telling our kids “how lucky they are to live here all year long and be able to go to the beach whenever we want.” Organizations like the FCCSB make it possible for us to have access to the beach. Because of this, it is our duty as a resident of San Diego County or a frequent visitor to the campgrounds to do what we can on behalf of the FCCSB.
