Installing Vinyl Accessories

Installing Vinyl Accessories

The following are installation tips for installing CALI vinyl accessories, including stair treads and nosings. Accessories help to disguise the required expansion space, so always remember to include those measurements when installing trim pieces.

Step 1
Clean and prepare your subfloor. Always glue accessories directly to the subfloor (or wall in the case of Quarter Rounds) and never adhere them to the flooring itself. All CALI Vinyl accessories must be secured using a glue down method, nailing will cause cracking and chipping.

Step 2
Trim your accessory piece to size using a table or miter saw with a 80 tooth or higher carbide-tipped blade.

Quick Tip! The vinyl tracks for the T-molds and reducers can be trimmed down if one side runs up to tile, glued down floor, or material where the track can’t be slid under. Do not trim the side that runs next to the Cali Vinyl to allow for proper expansion space.

Step 3
Adhere the accessory piece directly to the subfloor using a Polyurethane Construction Adhesive. CALI recommends using Titebond Fastset Construction Adhesive, but any polyurethane construction adhesive will work if it’s fast setting and applicable for indoor and outdoor applications. Follow any surface prep instructions from the adhesive manufacturer. Do not use liquid nails or wood glue.

Quick Tip! Vinyl T-molds and reducers come with a track. Glue the track down first and then snap the accessory top into the track after the glue has dried.

Step 4
Allow glue to dry, clean up any glue marks with Bostik’s Adhesive Remover Wipes.Remember, all transition accessories are designed as universal pieces. There are countless different scenarios you can run into on a job site and the accessories are designed to be modified as needed to fit your installation.
